Designed by well-known builder A.W. Pattiani, this Alameda Queen Anne was stripped of its original ornament. Later additions, including a wraparound porch, altered the structure’s massing in a way that precluded strict restoration. Creative thinking was required to integrate the later additions with the original house, and an entirely new design emerged with the addition of a strategically placed cupola that anchors the porch and balances the composition. The result is a synthesis of restoration techniques and new design elements based on careful study of the original builder’s signature details.
